Getting Started

  1. Wind the mainspring gently until resistance is felt. Do not force beyond this point.
  2. Place Mechanica on the included stand or any stable surface.
  3. Release the mechanism and enjoy watching it come to life.
  4. Avoid operating Mechanica at steep angles or upside down.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Mechanica?

Mechanica is a hand-assembled mechanical display inspired by tourbillon mechanism in traditional watchmaking. Powered entirely by a real mainspring, it brings the captivating motion of a mechanical escapement into a larger format that can be appreciated on your desk.

Is it a real watch movement?

No.

Mechanica is inspired by the principles of traditional mechanical watchmaking but is engineered as a standalone display piece. Every component is designed to showcase the beauty of the mechanism rather than tell time.

Is Mechanica 3D printed?

Yes. Every Mechanica is manufactured using industrial 3D printing, fasten with metal screws.

We chose engineered polymers for a reason. At this scale, they allow the mechanism to remain light, responsive, and efficient. The result is a large-scale mechanism that's smooth, precise, and designed to be admired in motion

A comparable metal mechanism would be considerably heavier, more difficult to drive, produce loud ticking sound, and substantially more expensive.

How long does it run?

Depending on the edition and winding force, Mechanica typically runs for around 2–3 minutes on a full wind.

How many times can I wind it?

As often as you'd like.

Mechanica is designed for repeated use and has been tested through hundreds of winding cycles. Simply wind until you feel resistance—there is no need to force it beyond that point.

Is maintenance required?

No routine maintenance is required.

Simply keep Mechanica clean and avoid unnecessary disassembly.

Troubleshooting

My Mechanica doesn't start after winding.

Occasionally, the escapement may need a gentle nudge to begin oscillating.

Simply give the escapement fork or wheel a light push with your fingertip or small objects. This is normal for precision mechanical escapements and only takes a second.

The top balance wheel came loose.

Don't worry.

The balance wheel is designed to be removable and can simply be placed back onto its pivot. No tools are required.

If you're unsure, feel free to contact us before attempting anything further.

I accidentally turned Mechanica upside down.

Simply return it to an upright position and wind it again.

For the smoothest operation, avoid operating Mechanica at steep angles or upside down.

Can I remove the screws?

We do not recommend disassembling Mechanica or removing any screws.

Each unit is carefully assembled and calibrated by hand. Disassembly may affect its performance.

Care
